 The first element of a health and safety management system is the health and safety policy statement.


The policy is a declaration of management’s commitment to the management system and must reflect the attitude, authority and objectives set forth by them. Your company might already have a health and safety policy statement, but does it include the following:

  • Signed acknowledgment/date by the President, CEO or area manager
  • The need to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable Regulations
  • Employees rights for a safe and healthy work environment
